Dr. Verghese receives national HIV/AIDS service award

Abraham Verghese, M.D., D.Sc. (Hon.), Director of the Center for Medical Humanities & Ethics, was presented the National AIDS Memorial Groves HIV/AIDS Service Award in honor of his dedication and compassion in working with HIV/AIDS patients over the past 25 years. The National AIDS Memorial Grove is a living tribute to all whose lives have been touched by AIDS. Dr. Verghese also is an accomplished author. His first book, "My Own Country," about a doctor’s struggle with the AIDS epidemic, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for 1994. His second book, "The Tennis Partner," was a New York Times notable book and a national bestseller. Dr. Verghese also has published extensively in medical literature.
