October 2002 The National Institutes of Health has invited Arlan G. Richardson, Ph.D., to serve on the Board of Scientific Counselors of the National Institute on Aging (NIA). Dr. Richardson is a professor of physiology, director of the Health Science Center’s Aging Research and Education Center and a research career scientist in the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. "Serving on this panel is an exciting opportunity," Dr. Richardson said. "I believe this reflects the fact that the Health Science Center has one of the nation’s strongest programs in research of aging and longevity. The NIA is an exceedingly important agency for the continuation of the quality science conducted in San Antonio." His post begins immediately and will run five years, through June 30, 2007.
