October 2002 The Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) has sworn in David F. Schneider, M.D., as its president-elect. Dr. Schneider is an associate professor of family and community medicine. He becomes president in July 2003. "One of my goals is to advocate for family physicians in terms of medical resources," Dr. Schneider said. "The easier we make medicine to practice, the better access to physicians we provide for our patients." Dr. Schneider said he will tackle the current malpractice crisis that costs some doctors more than $100,000 in premiums each year. He also wants to remedy a nationwide shortage of students who enter the family practice specialty each year. Dr. Schneider joined the TAFP in 1992 and has served as treasurer, parliamentarian and chair of the student affairs and finance committees.
