Contributions to establish the $100,000 professorship came from the Health Science Center Development Board members and their friends. Board President Jocelyn L. Straus led the effort to raise the funds for this endowment.
The professorship will help the Dental School in its mission to create new knowledge that can be translated into disease prevention and health promotion.
"The faculty is extremely pleased that the Health Science Center Development Board has chosen to commit its first endowed professorship to the Dental School," said Kenneth L. Kalkwarf, DDS, dean of the Dental School. "We look forward to using this resource to enhance our academic excellence.
"A task force is establishing criteria for awarding of the professorship and the school looks forward to recommending the first recipient in the near future," Dr. Kalkwarf said.
