Attaching, expanding the rib

(A) This illustration depicts a titanium rib prosthesis which has been implanted following surgical separation of the ribs.

(B) As the patient grows, the surgeons expand the prosthesis through small incisions (an outpatient surgical procedure), to enlarge the constricted chest and correct the scoliosis.
