Neurological Science Grand Rounds:
Neurological Sciences Grand Rounds is held each Friday from 8:00-9:30am. The general format begins with a 30 minute case presentation of an interesting/difficult patient by the Residents, followed by an hour didactic lecture on a neurological topic. We invite all interested persons to attend and to participate. Location for Grand Rounds is in theMedical School, Rm 3.104A (Pestana Lecture Hall on the same side as Subway)

Merrill Carolin, M.D.
Professor/ Clinical Neurology
Expertise: Dr. Carolin is the Director of Education for the Department of Neurology. She is a leader in the department for educational activites and has been the Residency Program Director for the past 20 years.

Donald Robin, PH.D.
Professor/ Neurology
Expertise: Dr. Robin's expertise is in the area of motor control and motor disorders with a focus on speech motor control. He is the Chief of the Human Performance Division at the Research Imaging Institute and has expanded his research into such areas as chronic pain following TBI and using imaging to predict outcome measures in patients with neurological disease. His work is funded by grants from the NIH.

Charles Akos Szabo, M.D.
Professor/ Clinical Neurology
Expertise: Dr. Szabo's clinical work is focused on caring for people with epilepsy. He has played a leading role in building the Division of Epilepsy and Epilepsy Surgery Program at the Health Science Center. His research strives to characterize a natural model of photosensitive epilepsy in the baboon.

Vivek Misra, M.D.
Assistant Professor
Specialty: Stroke
Dr. Misra completed his medical education at the Kasturba Medical College in India. He completed an Internal Medicine internship at New York Methodist Hospital, neurology residency training at Louisiana State University of Health Sciences, and fellowship training in vascular neurology at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Upon completeion of his fellowship, Dr. Misra joined the faculty at the Universtiy of Texas Medical School at Houston as an Instructor. Dr. Misra will provide stroke services at UHS and Baptist St. Luke's. In addition, Dr. Misra's research interests include the management of acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. Dr. Misra's role will also include the education of medical students, residents, and fellows.
Alejandro Tobon, M.D.

Specialty: Neuromuscular
Dr. Tobon attended medical school and neurology residency in Colombia before moving to the United States in 2003. He completed his neurology training at the University of New Mexico and worked as a private neurologist in Iowa before completing his Neuromuscular fellowship at the University Of Miami- Miller School Of Medicine. He is board certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Tobon will provide neuromuscular consultations and perform electrodiagnostic studies at our EMG laboratory. He is also committed in the expansion of the neuromuscular research programs and will be involved in the education of our residents and neurophysiology fellows.
