Alex Martinez is working on the role played by PPAR gamma receptors in levodopa-induced dyskinesias in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease. He has shown that activation of these receptors by Rosiglitazone reduces the expression of L-DOPA-induced abnormal involuntary movements in dyskinetic rats without affecting the antiparkinsonian activity of levodopa. He is currently analyzing the biochemical pathways involved in the behavioral responses elicited by Rosiglitazone.
