Countdown to Fiesta de Tejas begins
The Health Science Center is doing Fiesta de Tejas bigger and
better in 2000 with a new location, an expanded children's area and
additional activities.
This year Fiesta participants can sing the night away at the
karaoke booth or take a rodeo photo while sitting on a stuffed Texas
longhorn. One of the newest activities offered at Fiesta de Tejas is
human bowling--a ball for kids and adults alike.

Fiestagoers show off baskets filled with the popular
cascarones. The confetti-filled eggs are a staple during
Fiesta in San Antonio.

The event, which is sponsored by H-E-B and Soft Rock KQ102, will be
held from 5 p.m. to midnight Thursday, April 27, in its new larger
location at the recreational area and pavilion. The new setting
supports the larger children's area and two stages that will feature
live music and entertainment. More than 50 booths will offer
everything from crafts and jewelry to delicious Mexican fare to Fiesta
souvenirs.
Tickets are $4 in advance and $6 at the gate. Children 12 and
younger and adults 65 and older will receive free admission. Advanced
tickets can be purchased at the Health Science Center bookstore, the
South Texas Veterans Health Care System's Audie L. Murphy Division
Public Affairs Office and through Fiesta Commission centralized ticket
sales. Parking for the event is free. For more information on the
event, visit the Fiesta de Tejas Web site at www.uthscsa.edu/opa/fiesta2000/index.htm.
