Professor of Natural Medicine Award 

Dr. Wendell D. Winters (right), Department of Microbiology, receives notice of  the Professor of Natural Medicine Award from Dr. Yu Shu Huo, faculty member of  the Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Dalian Medical  School and Affiliated Hospital. The final award will be presented to Dr. Winters  when he returns to the People's Republic of China. Dr. Huo visited the Health  Science Center to meet with Dr. Winters, who is the first U.S.  researcher-educator to hold an honorary professorship of natural medicine from  Liaoning University. The award honors Dr. Winters' outstanding research in  herbal medicines and his international service in teaching post-doctoral medical  students and visiting researchers. In one research project, Dr. Winters has  studied combinations of herbs used in Chinese traditional medicines to assess  the anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties of the herbs.
