Dental hygiene faculty named to state committee
Renée S. Cornett, dental hygiene, is a newly appointed member of the
Texas Dental Hygiene Advisory Committee that advises the State Board
of Dental Examiners. She was appointed before
the new year by then-Texas Gov. George W. Bush. Her first meeting with
the committee was this week in Austin.
The associate professor will serve until Feb. 1, 2005, on the six-member
committee, which also includes dental hygienists, dentists and members
of the public. The committee meets in Austin, usually on a quarterly
basis, and offers information to the state board on issues such as the
scope of practice and allowable functions for hygienists.
Cornett has been on the faculty since 1990. She has been the principal
investigator for a Department of Defense educational contract to train
enlisted personnel and a site coordinator for an outcomes assessment
project. She serves on several campus committees. With a cross
appointment in the graduate school, she helps to develop and direct
courses at the certificate, bachelor's and master's levels.
