UTHSC celebrates National Poetry MonthThe university community is invited to participate in a number of activities on campus celebrating National Poetry Month in April. "The Healing Power of Poetry" is the theme for events that will explore how songs and poems soothe, excite, enlighten, heal or hurt the human heart. Schedule of events
"The Healing Power of Poetry"
Dr. Marga Speicher, clinical associate professor of psychiatry and Jungian psychotherapist, will discuss image and metaphor as gateways to inner experience and psychological development. Dr. Speicher has lectured extensively on the symbolic understanding of stories, folklore and dreams, and on the contributions of literature to psychological growth. The Friends of the P.I. Dr. Diane Kaufman, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and a recipient of the 2000 Humanism in Medicine Award from the Health Care Foundation of New Jersey, is the speaker. "The Healing Power of Poetry: A

and library exhibit
The workshop will feature small group discussions and poetry readings. Visiting professor Dr. Diane Kaufman will lead the program. Registration is required. The third-floor library exhibit will feature poetry by UTHSC faculty, staff and students. The fifth-floor exhibit will feature poems related to the history of medicine.
