Bruns speaks at HHMI Research Day
Dr. Peter J. Bruns, vice president of grants and special programs for the
Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), speaks to the audience at the first
HHMI Research Day held April 11 on campus. Dr. Bruns was the
distinguished speaker for the event, which was sponsored by the
department of medicine. The topic of his presentation was "Howard Hughes
Medical Institute: Science, Education and Now Janelia Farm." The event
celebrated the accomplishments of faculty who have received grant support
from the HHMI. It also gave HHMI awardees the opportunity to showcase
their work to senior members of the HHMI leadership. The HHMI Research
Resources Program at the Health Science Center has provided research
startup support for nearly 50 new faculty, funded 24 pilot projects and
supported a number of conferences, visiting scientists, research trainees
and mini sabbaticals.
