The National Board
of Medical Examiners
(NBME) has elected
Dr. Nicolas E. Walsh,
professor and chairman in
the department of rehabilitation
medicine, as a
member of the board. The
NBME was created to
protect public health by
assessing all health professionals
prior to licensing.
Dr. Walsh joins 80 other members on the board.
"This group determines a physician's ability
to apply knowledge and practice medicine. The
NBME testing and standards determine who
gets a license and who does not," Dr. Walsh said.
"I am honored by my election to this very
prestigious board."
Dr. Walsh chairs the American Board of
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the national
certifying agency for all physical medicine and
rehabilitation specialists. The American Board of
Medical Specialties nominated him for his current
position on the NBME. Dr. Walsh will serve a
four-year term as a board member.
