Faculty invited to professional
development programs in June
The division of educational research and development will conduct two professional development
programs for faculty in June. Registration is free. Contact Bill Hendricson at ext. 7-2292, by fax at
ext. 7-2281 or send an e-mail to hendricson@uthscsa.edu. The deadline to register is June 10.
The courses are:
• Multimedia Options in Designing Web Courses / 9 a.m. to noon, Thursday, June 13
Participants will learn about multimedia techniques such as streaming audio and video, streaming PowerPoint,
streaming PowerPoint with Impatica, flash interaction with WebCT. They also will learn how to use streaming
techniques in examinations. Participants will gain strategies for using CD-ROM multimedia with online
courses, see a demonstration of Microsoft screen capture and learn about the CD-ROM tool in WebCT. The
workshop instructor is Kevin Reeve, manager, Faculty Assistance Center for Teaching, Utah State University.
• Writing Reader-Friendly Manuscripts / 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 20
During this hands-on workshop participants will practice writing clear, compelling and convincing manuscripts
and will learn how to fix common errors that clutter the scientific message. They will edit sentences
and paragraphs to enhance clarity and learn what experienced reviewers and journal editors expect from
authors for different types of manuscripts.
