Funding for resident research is currently provided through Departmental resources and an educational grant from DePuy Orthopaedics, a Johnson and Johnson Company. The Chairman of the Orthopaedic Resident Research Committee, Dr. David D. Dean, and the Research Coordinator, Ms. Pat Cathcart, B.A., work with residents during the project and mentor selection process to help identify sources of funding, such as various foundations and societies which allocate funds for small research grants, before the project is approved and then monitor this factor during the course of the research project.
Even still, the cost of doing research is quite high and often outstrips the Department’s ability to support every worthy project. If you are interested in financially supporting this aspect of our mission, it would be a tremendous help.
For further information on how you can support resident research with a tax-deductible donation, contact Dr. Daniel Carlisle, Program Director, Department of Orthopaedics at 210-567-5139 or by e-mail.
