Born and Raised in the small East Texas Town of Splendora, I matriculated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. degree in Biology from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1988. I then completed medical school training and graduated in the top 5% of my class with a M.D. degree followed by my orthopedic residency training at UTHSCSA thru 1998. Following residency I received my initial board certification in 2000 with recertification in 2010, and spent 12 years in private practice performing general orthopedic surgery in Southwest Oregon (Grants Pass).

I joined the U.S. Army Reserves during my third year of residency training at UTHSCSA and spent 8 years with the reserves until honorable discharge in April of 2004. I was initially attached to the 396th Combat Support Hospital (CSH) at Fort Vancouver Washington and spent the last four years as the orthopedic surgeon for the 915 Forward Surgical Team. I deployed with the team for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF) for 6 months and spent 3 of those months in Iraq in direct support of the 3rd brigade of the 4th Infantry Division. The 915 FST received the Valorous Unit Award for exceptional heroism during this deployment.

I decided to relocate back to my home state of Texas in 2010 and signed on as Assistant Professor for General Orthopedics at UTHSCSA. I have since been practicing and teaching general orthopedics with a more recent focus on acute trauma with the orthopedic trauma division.

My area of interest is teaching residents and students how to be a well rounded orthopedist who has the ability and confidence to handle the spectrum of general orthopedic problems as well as practicing with compassion, efficiency and cost-effectiveness in clinic as well as in an operative environment.
