Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Orthopaedics of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is to maintain the highest standard of excellence in teaching, research, and patient care. The faculty is committed to educating health professionals and prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases in a cost effective, efficient, safe, and ethical manner. The Department of Orthopaedics is committed to research in musculoskeletal pathophysiology for the prevention and treatment of diseases. The new knowledge created by these research findings will be disseminated to the state, nation, and world to address society’s health care needs. The Department of Orthopaedics is part of the health care system within the San Antonio and Bexar County community, South Texas, and beyond. The Department is committed to meeting the health care needs of the people of Bexar County regardless of their socioeconomic status and to serve as a referral center for the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases.
