Bridget Piernik-Yoder, PhD, OTR

Dr. Bridgett Piernik-Yoder, as a graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy, is an alumnus who joined the Department of Occupational Therapy as a full-time faculty member in 2007, after serving as an adjunct faculty member since 1998. Additionally, she holds a Master of Arts degree in Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a Ph.D. in Education from Texas A&M University. Prior to joining the faculty full-time, Dr. Piernik-Yoder worked for 10 years as an occupational therapist at a large rehabilitation hospital, with an initial clinical practice emphasis in burn rehabilitation, then later in neurorehabilitation. Her clinical expertise and leadership in clinical program development was recognized by her employer when she was named the National Clinician of the Year in 1999. In 2003, Dr. Piernik-Yoder pursued a unique career path when she joined Harcourt Assessment, Inc., an international publisher of clinical assessments. First as a Research Director, then as the Occupational Therapy Product Line Manager, she was part of a team that developed clinical assessment measures for use by occupational therapists and other clinicians. Dr. Piernik-Yoder has been a frequent presenter at local, regional, and national conferences and continuing education programs on topics related to clinical program development, program evaluation, and assessment practice. In recognition of her professional activities, she was named Occupational Therapist of the Year in 1999 by the Texas Occupational Therapy Association. Her research interests include issues relating to adult physical rehabilitation, as well as practice issues and professional development of occupational therapists.
