RECRUITMENT AND SCIENCE OUTREACH

Collegiate Volunteer Program

We have a collegiate volunteer /shadowing program which has become more formalized at the UT HSC. This program is designed to give college students interested in pursuing a medical/health related career an opportunity to gain clinical, research, and professional experience, ultimately giving them insight into the health careers and possibly making them more competitive applicants into professional programs.

photo of students at microscope Students are only processed on a semester basis. Forms should be submitted in April for potential summer placement, August for potential Fall placement and  in November for potential Spring placement.

All students participating in the program must be at least 18 years of age, must pass a background check, and be willing to commit at least four hours a week to the shadowing experience.

Below are forms that students interested in volunteering/becoming a Mentee can print/copy. Please complete the forms and then fax or mail the forms to Dr. Chapa, Ph.D. for processing.

The first is the 'Person of Interest' form (pdf) allowing the UT HSC to conduct a background check.

The second form is an interest form (Word doc) so that we can "match them" to a mentor that suits your interest.

UT Health Science Center Faculty and Staff interested in becoming Mentors can please fill out the form below. Dr. Chapa will be in contact as soon as a student mentee has been assigned.
