Information about the CTRC Symposium
We hope you can join us for the upcoming Annual Symposium of the Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) that will be held at the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute of The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, 8403 Floyd Curl Drive, San Antonio, on Thursday, November 19, 2015, 8:00 am – 3:00 pm.
The keynote speaker this year will be Dr. Eduardo M. Sotomayor, director at the George Washington Cancer Institute. Dr. Sotomayor was recently appointed the inaugural director of the George Washington Cancer Center (GWCC) and Professor of Medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine. Prior to joining the GWCC, Dr. Sotomayor was the scientific director of the DeBartolo Family Personalized Medicine Institute, and chair of the Department of Malignant Hematology at the Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute.
Dr. Sotomayor has a strong interest in personalized medicine for cancer treatment and is an internationally recognized visionary in the field of lymphoma research and treatment. His primary area of research is immunobiology and immunotherapy of B-cell malignancies, with special emphasis on the design of novel immunotherapeutic approaches for these diseases. He has published more than 100 manuscripts, including seminal publications in leading journals such as Nature Medicine, Nature Immunology, Immunity, Cancer Cell, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Journal of Clinical Investigations, Blood, Cancer Research, and Journal of Immunology.
There will also be a competitive poster session where pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students and fellows at UTHSCSA whose mentors are CTRC members (either Full or Associate) will showcase their cancer research projects Posters will be judged by a panel of faculty from UTHSCSA, UTSA and UT Austin during the symposium and awards presented to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place posters in both predoctoral and postdoctoral categories. Only students and fellows/postdoctorates are eligible for awards.
This symposium is supported by the CTRC of The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, through the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant (P30 CA054174).
The symposium is organized with help from Drs. Susan Mooberry, Andrew Brenner, Rong Li, Tom Slaga, Michael Wargovich, Pratap Kumar, Susan Padalecki, Ian Thompson and the CTRC Executive Committee.
