Dr. William Washburn is the Valero distinguished professor of surgery and director of liver transplantation in the Transplant Center at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio. His areas of expertise include laparoscopic and open complex liver, biliary and pancreatic surgery for benign and malignant disease. Dr. Washburn received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1988 and completed general surgery training at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston. He completed a fellowship in multi-organ transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery at the Harvard-New England Deaconess Hospital. Dr. Washburn has been a faculty member at the UT Health Science Center since 1997, following three years in the United States Air Force. He has an active practice in liver and renal transplantation, as well as hepatobiliary surgery. Areas of expertise include laparoscopic and open complex liver, biliary and pancreatic surgery for benign and malignant disease.
