Ovarian cancer is one of the most serious gynecological cancers affecting women in their 60s and 70s. The unfortunate news for most women who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer is that the cancer is often advanced by the time it is found. About 90 percent of ovarian cancers are called epithelial ovarian cancers, but other, rarer types of ovarian include germ cell tumors, Mullerian tumors of the ovary and primary peritoneal cancer.
Why choose the Cancer Therapy & Research Center for ovarian cancer?
The Cancer Therapy & Research Center has a multidisciplinary team led by gynecological oncologists who specialize in gynecological cancers. The cancer center’s gynecological oncologists specialize in diagnosis, staging, surgical treatment, chemotherapy and survivorship care of all patients with ovarian cancer.
Clinical trials are an important part of the work we do. Clinical trials are available for all patients, whether they are newly diagnosed or if they have already gone through other treatments. Because our cancer center is the only one in South Texas designated by the National Cancer Institute, we’re the only center that can say we offer care delivered by teams specializing in all phases of clinical trials.
