Soft tissue sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that arises from fat, muscle, nerve and nerve sheath, blood vessels and other connective tissues. More than 50 different types of soft tissue sarcoma have been identified.
The most common types are:
- Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma
- Synovial sarcoma
- Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors
Most soft tissue sarcomas occur in the limbs. These sarcomas can also occur on the body, in the abdomen, in the head and neck area, and in some organs.
Soft tissue sarcomas are best handled by experienced multidisciplinary teams like those at the CTRC. We are experts at caring for patients with these rare cancers.
Soft tissue sarcomas represent less than 1 percent of all adult cancers and about 10 to 15 percent of childhood cancers.
Why choose the Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) for soft tissue sarcoma?

We will perform a comprehensive evaluation of your case and we will discuss it in our sarcoma team conferences.
Clinical trials at the CTRC
As a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated cancer center, the CTRC offers care delivered by a sarcoma team who specialize in all phases of clinical trials.
We have clinical trial-based treatments available in our Sarcoma Clinic through our partnership with the National Cancer Institute and other organizations for clinical trial-based treatment options for all patients with soft tissue sarcomas.
Clinical trials are available for soft tissue sarcoma patients who have just been diagnosed. There are also clinical trials available for those soft tissue sarcoma patients who have had prior treatments.
The CTRC also offers experimental treatments and first-in-human clinical trials under special programs for soft tissue sarcoma patients who qualify.
