UT Dentistry was the first practice in the U.S. to offer Straumann PURE Ceramic Implants, which are ivory colored like a natural tooth root. Patients who need dental implants but have thin gums, a high lip line smile, or are allergic to titanium are potential candidates for ceramic dental implants. Ceramic implants have shown comparable strength to titanium, can be used for single implants or groups of teeth, and have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Like traditional dental implants with metal anchors, ceramic dental implants also must be placed in stages. Multiple visits are necessary to complete the process of replacing missing teeth.
