Conditions we treat, but are not limited to:
If nervousness or sadness last much of your day and interfere with your life, this could be more than just the normal “blues”. Our clinicians employ a combined treatment package of medication and psychotherapy to assist you with managing your emotions, thoughts and behaviors.
Bipolar disorder (manic-depressive disorder)
Bipolar disorder is a condition that affects over 2 million Americans. Mania symptoms may include feelings of extreme happiness or irritability, increased energy, and a reduced need for sleep. Depressive symptoms can include overwhelming feelings of sadness, a lack of energy and changes in appetite and sleep.
Dementia and cognitive disorders
Emotional and memory problems in later life can be a great concern to patients and their families. Our geriatrics division offers comprehensive assessment for Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. We also treat a wide range of psychiatric problems in the elderly.
Marital, family and adjustment issues
Divorce, illness, job change or loss are but a few of the many stressors that can take a toll on our relationships with spouses and children. Individuals can find the stress of career or relationships overwhelming. UT Medicine's experienced psychologists and social workers can help you work through these issues.
UT Medicine has a psychologist who specializes in psychotherapy for individuals with anorexia, bulimia and other eating issues.
