Happy mature couple

UT Health San Antonio's renowned neuromuscular disorder specialists offer unparalleled expertise, experience and technology. We are advancing care for muscular dystrophy, ALS and other neuromuscular disorders every day.

UT Health San Antonio's board certified, fellowship trained neurologists provide expert care for all neuromuscular disorders and deliver the most advanced care in South Texas for muscular dystrophy and ALS.

Our practice helps patients with all types of neuromuscular disorders. It includes a Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Clinic that is one of only 38 MDA/ALS Research Centers in the country. Our clinic provides care to over 800 patients throughout South Texas who have any of the 40 different neuromuscular diseases.

Comprehensive care for neuromuscular disorders

The comprehensive neuromuscular program we offer also leads the South Texas Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Clinic which is one of only 34 clinics in the nation accredited by the National ALS Association. Our ALS center provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, speech pathology, dietary, social services, and psychological services in addition to neurological care.

Our specialists believe in a multidisciplinary treatment approach. In order to develop the best care plan possible, they consult and collaborate with other neuroscience specialists as well as our patient's other physicians and medical specialists. This type of comprehensive care allows our neurologists to create an effective treatment plan that is specifically tailored for each patient.

We provide advanced imaging and electrodiagnostic services including nerve conduction studies, electromyography, repetitive nerve stimulation, and single fiber EMG. We also conduct clinical research trials for a variety of neuromuscular diseases including ALS, myasthenia gravis, myotonic dystrophy, dermatomyositis, and peripheral neuropathy. Exceptional care for any neuromuscular condition is dependent upon the expertise, compassion, and resources of our neurologists. Patients, their loved ones, and their physicians rely on the decades of experience, vast research and modern technology our nationally recognized specialists provide.
