UT Police Mission

Mission statement

The Mission of UT Police is to efficiently provide quality police service to our community by promoting a safe environment through police-community partnerships, with an emphasis on mutual trust, integrity, fairness, and professionalism.

Vision

The Vision of UT Police is to be a state leader in university law enforcement.  The hallmark of our leadership is a unified, cooperative spirit in which we the police officers and people in our community work together to solve common problems.

Our commitment

UT Police at UT Health San Antonio are committed to providing the highest quality police and security service. On average we have over 20 officers and public safety personnel working tirelessly on our three primary campuses and in several of our leased spaces. Even though you may not physically see someone when you are walking on campus or in the halls of our buildings, I can assure you that within minutes of any criminal event or medical emergency, you will see our expertly trained and very competent staff on-site. All of our police and security employees are trained well above and beyond the minimum requirements. Most recently our department was honored with receiving the University of Texas System Police Training Officer of the year award for our exemplary efforts in law enforcement training and standards. Our department is also accredited by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA), which require our department to adhere to over 220 policies and standards that represent policing best practices. During our most recent assessment in February 2013, our department earned high praise and recognition for our overall effort and transformational leadership changes and improvements.

Over the last three years, we have significantly enhanced our ability to respond to any criminal event on campus and more specifically, our response to an active shooter. All of our officers have been recertified and trained at the highest levels to intervene in any hostile act towards our students or employees. We have also invested in cutting edge technology, enhanced our safety equipment, emergency response plans, and video monitoring system--all to protect our institution. UT  Police has two members of our department that belong to the UT System Rapid Response Team and they are trained and certified as S.W.A.T team members. In addition, we have one of the only two employees in the entire UT System that has earned the elite advanced active shooter credentials for medical and hospital facilities.

UT Police was recognized and ranked #1 among the other 15 peer institutions throughout the UT System for 2013 by the University of Texas Office of Director of Police. The award was earned for consistently being recognized as the premier police organization in the UT System and specifically for preventing and solving more crimes than any other UT Police system department. You can be assured that our officers are well trained, competent, approachable, and prepared to assist our university community day or night.
