Mission

Our commitment

UT Police is committed to providing the highest quality police and security service. Our police department has over 75 officers and public safety personnel working tirelessly over three campuses and across our leased spaces to assure a rapid response to any criminal event or medical emergency. All of our police and public safety personnel are trained above and beyond the minimum requirements. Most recently our department was honored with receiving the University of Texas System Police Training Officer of the year award for our exemplary efforts in law enforcement training and standards. UT Police is also accredited by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Accreditation demonstrates compliance with more than 220 policies and standards that represent policing best practices. During our most recent assessment, our department earned high praise and recognition for our transformational leadership changes and improvements.

Over the last three years, we have significantly enhanced our ability to respond to any criminal event on campus and, more specifically, our response to an active shooter. All of our officers have been recertified and trained at the highest levels to intervene in any hostile act towards our students or employees. We have also invested in cutting edge technology, including our video monitoring system, modernized our safety equipment, and updated our emergency response plans — all to protect our institution. UT Police has one of the only two employees in the entire UT System that has earned the elite advanced active shooter credentials for medical and hospital facilities.

UT Police was recognized and ranked #1 among the other 15 peer institutions throughout the UT System for 2013 by the University of Texas Office of Director of Police. The award was earned for consistently being recognized as the premier police organization in the UT System and, specifically, for preventing and solving more crimes than any other UT Police system department. Be assured that our officers are well trained, competent, approachable, and prepared to assist our university community day or night.
