Objective: basic knowledge of the economics of medical practice andof the challenges and opportunities that current political, economic,and social environments pose to physicians. Resources: handouts, material posted on the section "didactic" of www.uthscsa.edu/rchws, the web site of the Regional Center for Health Workforce Studies(RCHWS). Requirements: 1) review of the selected materials posted on the RCHWS site and questions asked by previous students prior to class meetings as indicated in the schedule below; (2) attendance to all sessions (dispensation possible for documented emergencies) and participation in class discussion; (3) brief written feedbacks. Format: four two-hour sessions. After a brief introduction of the day's topic by the course director, a panel of physicians and other specialists will discuss the questions most frequently asked by students of previous classes. Then, the panel will take questions from the floor. Each session concludes with a summary of the main issues addressed during the Q&A period. Grading: pass/fail
