OBJECTIVES

By the end of this lecture series, the participant should be able to:

1.Understand the key components for the diagnosis and management of asthma, especially including the importance of avoidance measures.

2.Compare and contrast the continuous flow and conserving oxygen devices.

3.Describe two therapies resulting from clinical research that has impacted the patient with cystic firosis.

4.Discuss the challenges in establishing reference ranges for older adults.

5.Identify two therapies for patients with pulmonary fibrosis.

6.Describe the importance of respiratory care in the management of an open abdomen.

7. Describe the importance of a high index of suspicion and prompt therapy for suspected DVT/PE.

8. Explain the importance of ventilator managemetn and other startegies for optimizing donors for lung transplantation.

9.Explain the key treatment for tuberculosis.

10.Understand the importance of pharmacological therapy in AECOPED and the role of noninvasive and invasive mechanical ventilation in AECOPD.
