Continuing Education in Cytogenetics and CLSContinuing education is required to maintain certification as a Clinical Laboratory Specialists in Cytogenetics [CLSp(CG)]. Often, laboratories in close proximity will band together to form "Journal Clubs" to provide continuing education units (CEU) to their members. AGT offers "Journal Club" activities based on significant publications that may be used by individuals or groups to earn CEU. Continuing education units may be earned by attending scientific seminars, local, regional or national genetics meetings, submitting posters, publishing scientific papers, book chapters or by making presentations. Continuing education also is required to maintain certification as a CLS by NCA and ASCP (for those certified after January 2005.) To renew certification, you must document 30 hours (NCA) or 36 hours (ASCP) of continuing education every 3 years. If you work in a JCAHO accredited hospital, you are also required to attend periodic continuing education events. Continuing education is also available at:
