The faculty and staff at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) are dedicated to health-care education. Our energy and resources go toward supporting an educational environment that attracts and nurtures the very best. If you are a licensed dental hygienist and
would like to continue your education towards a baccalaureate
degree, the UTHSCSA has a program that can be tailored
to you. Today's dental hygienists are employed
in a variety of health care environments. According
to the U.S. Bureau of
Labor Statistics, employment in the field is expected
to grow faster than that of many other professions in
the coming years. When you receive your bachelor's degree,
you will be in a position to advance in your career or
seek a challenging new position within a wide range of
options. Opportunities for graduates include dental management,
teaching, marketing, sales and research, and can include

What are the requirements for admission?
A. For admissision requirements, see the Texas Core Curriculum.
Q. Where
do I apply for admission?
A. UTHSCSA uses the on-line Texas
Common Application.
Q. Do
I need to be a licensed dental hygienist to enter this
program?
A. Yes, a state license is required
in the U.S. or Canada.
Q. What
is the application deadline?
A. The application and all supporting
documents must be receivedby June 1 for the fall term
and October 1 for the spring term.
Q. Are
all classes offered on-line?
A. Currently no, most courses
are web enhanced which limits the time required to be
on campus. In addition other dental hygiene schools
in Texas allow students to complete clinical teaching
on their campus.
Q. What
is the admission selection process?
A. Selection is a competitive
process that is the responsibility of the faculty. Decisions
are based on a composite of the applicant's overall professional
and academic ability. The University recognizes
the value of diversity and is committed to providing
appropriate support to its student body.
Q. Who
will advise me regarding the application process?
A. The Allied Health Welcome center
was created to answer questions regarding pre-requisite
courses and admissions policies.

will advise me during my studies?
A. Mary Jacks, RDH, MS, is the
BS degree completion program director and will assist
with degree plans.
Q. Do
I have to attend full-time?
A. You can take course work on
either a full-time or a part-time basis.
