Before You Arrive

There are a few things you must do before you arrive for orientation.

  • Complete and return your Student Immunization Card.
Student immunizations must be completed and documented on the Student Immunization Record before you may register for your classes.  Be sure to get the white immunization card included in your orientation packet completely filled out and signed by your health care provider.   You can also access the card at: http://studentservices.uthscsa.edu/pdf/ImmunizationRecord.pdf.  The immunization card should be mailed to the Student Health Clinic (SHC) at least 30 days before registration.  Send your card to: UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, Student Health Center / Nursing School – MSC 7934, 7703 Floyd Curl Drive, San Antonio, TX  78229-3900.  If you have questions, you may contact the Student Health Clinic at 210-567-9355 or visit their website at http://studentservices.uthscsa.edu/healthcenter.aspx

  • Complete and return your Health Insurance Coverage Form.
Students are required to maintain a valid major medical insurance policy while enrolled.  If you are covered by health insurance, you must submit proof of coverage and a copy of the front and back of your health insurance card to the Registrar’s Office 30 days before Orientation.  Submit the Health Insurance Coverage form included in your new student packet to:  UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, Registrar’s Office – Mail Code 7702, 7703 Floyd Curl Drive, San Antonio, TX  78229-3900.  You can access the form at http://studentservices.uthscsa.edu/pdf/InsuranceVerifForm.pdf

If you don’t already have health insurance coverage or don’t provide proof of coverage, you will be charged for a policy with United Healthcare Insurance.  For more information, contact the Registrar’s Office at 210-567-2660 or go to http://studentservices.uthscsa.edu/index.aspx#.

  • Check with the Registrar’s Office at 210-567-2660 to make sure your official transcripts have arrived if you’ve previously attended classes at other universities or colleges.
If you’re currently enrolled, send your official transcripts at the end of the semester.  Be sure to have the transcripts sent from your previous school directly to the Registrar’s Office at:  UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, Registrar’s Office – Mail Code 7702, 7703 Floyd Curl Drive, San Antonio, TX  78229-3900

  • Visit the campus to purchase your ID and Parking Permit at the Parking Services Office.
If you plan to park on campus, you are required to purchase a parking permit.  The Parking Services Office recommends that you purchase your student ID badge and parking permit before you come to campus for New Student Orientation.  You will need a valid driver’s license or other positive identification.   The Parking Services Office is located on the south side of the Central Campus next to the bookstore.  For directions or questions, call UT Police at 210-567-2800 or check out the campus map at http://studentservices.uthscsa.edu/pdf/CampusMaps.pdf.

  • Return the Workshop Interest Survey you received in your new student packet to almazan@uthscsa.edu  or you may fax it to 210-567-2689.

Orientation Day Activities

Where Do I Go?

Although there are orientation sessions for specific departments, the mandatory, all-school orientation session begins on Wednesday, August 20, at 8:00 a.m. at the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Campus (Central Campus) at 7703 Floyd Curl Drive in the Parman Auditorium/Foyer.  You can view the campus map at: http://studentservices.uthscsa.edu/pdf/CampusMaps.pdf.

Parking for students attending orientation will be in Parking Lot 17, next to the School of Health Professions building located on the North Campus.  Take the Perimeter Drive shuttle to the Central Campus.  Don’t forget your parking permit (either permanent or the temporary pass received in your new student packet)!

What Will Happen?

Various representatives from The University of Texas Health Science Center will present information to help you be more successful during your time as a student with us.  Some sessions are mandatory and all students must attend them:  Safety Awareness and Hazard Communication, Community Policing, Financial Aid, and Counseling.  However, you are strongly encouraged to attend the other scheduled presentations.

Optional activities are offered as well.  The Counseling Office will offer three workshops for you to attend:  Coming Back to School with Life Experiences, Couples, and Gay and Lesbian Issues in the Health Professions. These workshops provide an opportunity to discuss issues that are pertinent to you as a student at the Health Science Center.   You will also have the opportunity to meet with Peer Advisors during this time.  Peer Advisors are students (usually 2nd year) who volunteer to serve as mentors for incoming students.

What To Remember?

Your registration isn’t complete until tuition and fees are paid.  Cash, personal checks, and credit cards are accepted after financial aid has been credited to your student account.  If you are paying by credit card, the card holder must be present.  Tuition and fees must be paid by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 22.  For more payment information view: Direct Deposit Procedures and Student Billing Letter.  Or you may visit their website at: http://www.uthscsa.edu/business/bursar4students/.   You can also contact the Bursar’s Office directly at 210-567-2556 or e-mail them at bursar4students@uthscsa.edu with your questions.

For more specific information regarding registration and admissions, financial aid, student health, counseling services, academic calendars, etc., visit the Office of Student Services website at http://studentservices.uthscsa.edu/index.aspx#.

It is very important that you keep a current mailing address and phone number on-file in the Registrar’s Office.  If you move or change phone numbers, don’t forget to contact the Registrar’s Office at 567-2660 or login to http://inside.uthscsa.edu/  and access the “SA Self Service” link.  Name changes must be made in-person with proper official documentation such as a marriage license, adoption documents, court order name-change documents, etc.  Incorrect contact information could cause you to miss out on important information!
