UPDATE: APPLICANT CHECKLIST

The following is a checklist of documents and procedures associated with applying to The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio's (UTHSCSA's) Physician Assistant Studies Program. While it is comprehensive, it is not meant to be all-inclusive. Applicants should be aware that they must submit applications and supporting materials to BOTH the Central Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA) and UTHSCSA. ALL materials must be RECEIVED by the application deadline.


CASPA Application:

  • Personal Data and Contact Information
  • Institutions Attended and Planned and all coursework attempted, completed, or planned (your academic record)
  • Detailed work history including:
    Patient contact experience
    Related health care experience/research (including PA Shadow time)
    Community service
    Employment
  • Personal statement (500 words or less) expressing your motivation or desire to become a physician assistant.
  • Designate UTHSCSA to receive your application data from CASPA


Submit directly to CASPA:

  • Official transcriptsfrom ALL schools and training programs attended (since high school). If you are taking coursework (whether prerequisites or not) during the fall semester you must submit a transcript by the October 1st deadline showing what coursework is in process.   If selected for interview, applicants should bring a transcript with fall grades annotated to the interview.
  • CASPA fees
  • Personal References from three references
  • TOEFL if international student/non-English speaking


Submit directly to UTHSCSA Allied Health Registrar:

  • Supplemental Application and $45 fee (check or money order made out to UTHSCSA, credit cards cannot be accepted).
  • One-page essay on how you fit the UTHSCSA PA Program mission
  • DD214 if prior military experience
  • Request for waiver (if needed) - see Supplemental Application
  • Letter from Counselor or Registrar indicating you are degree eligible and date of anticipated graduation (if needed) - see Supplemental Application.


The deadline for submitting all admissions materials (including waiver requests) and completing all phases of the application process is October 1st for admission the following August.

DEADLINE EXTENSIONS WILL NOT BE GRANTED.

All Program Prerequisite coursework must be completed by the end of the application period. If you are taking coursework (whether prerequisites or not) during the fall semester you must submit a transcript indicating that coursework is in progress by the application deadline. If selected for interview, applicants should bring a transcript with fall grades annotated to the interview.

It is YOUR responsibility to ensure that all application materials are submitted and RECEIVED by the application deadline. Please check on the status of your application frequently until you are certain that your application is complete. CASPA only forwards completed applications to UTHSCSA.
