Professor and Chairman

Graduating from Duke University in 1976, Dr. Dennis Blessing has had a long career as both a Physician Assistant and PA educator. He has received many accolades, written many articles and, as the result of his contributions to PA education, was inducted into the Duke University Physician Assistant Hall of Fame in 2002. Furthermore, Dr. Blessing was appointed a full professorship in 2003 and is one of only a few PA full professors in the country.

Dr. BlessingNot only is he the Chair of the UTHSCSA PA program but he is also one of our instructors. You will have many classes with Dr. Blessing and he makes each class both challenging and interesting. When asked what advice he would give to future applicants he said, "If you are not 150% sure you want to be a PA, you need to choose another profession." We are very fortunate to have him as the Chair of our program and will become better Physician Assistants because of it.

In August, 2006 Dr. Blessing was named Associate Dean for South Texas Programs.  In this new capacity, his teaching time with the PA Program has decreased some, but he remains actively involved and oversees much of the Laredo expansion project.
