Student Diary - Class of 2007
January 2006
We started the last semester in the classroom, and
after last semester, most everyone is a little more
relaxed this semester. This semester we are hoping
that everything comes together. We started off this
semester running, this month we have two exams and
most of us have our first patient encounter for the
semester. The thing that most people around here are
talking about is the lack of winter and rain. There
have been a lot of grassfires in the area, and several
that have been several hundred acres. Thankfully no
one in the class has been directly affected by any
of them. The high temps have been in the high 70’s
and even reached 80.
December 2005
We made it!!! We are OFFICIALLY HALFWAY FINISHED,
and only one more semester in the classroom, then
three semesters of rotations. We submitted our requests
for our clinical rotations that start in June. We
are exhausted and need the three week break. We had
our Class of 2007 Christmas Party at Jessica’s
house on Dec. 18th and everyone had a good time.
November 2005
One more month left in this semester, we can at least
see the light at the end of the tunnel. We are starting
to study for Finals and preparing our final projects
in Cultural Issues. We are looking forward to the
Thanksgiving Holiday so we can take a few days off
from and spend some time with our families. For those
of us from out of town, it will be the first time
we have been home this semester. After Thanksgiving
only a few weeks left.
October 2005
We are about half way through the semester. This semester
is busy since we have Pathophysiology and Cultural
Issues on top of the other classes. Because of rearrangement
of the schedule we had to play catch up this semester
and it is challenging. We are really in need of a
break at this point; we have been in class since July.
September 2005
Things are in full swing now. We keeping our heads
in the books and don't have much time for anything
else. It seems like we have an exam just about every
week and sometimes two or more a week. Did I mention
that our schedule is very busy? There is a lot of
stuff going on that we are preparing for. The week
of October 3 “ 7 is PA Week and October 6th
is PA DAY. We are planning some activities for that
week. We are also supposed to start playing softball
here at the school on Tuesday evenings.
August 2005
What a month! We welcomed the Class of 2008, at a "picnic" that was held inside due to the weather, but everyone had a good time and we had a great turnout from both classes. We welcomed them officially into the profession at the White Coat Ceremony held on August 26. Earlier on Friday, we had a Bar-B-Cue that is held every year at Prof. Colver's house on the last Friday of orientation. Our class schedule just doubled as we started the classes with both med students and nurse practitioners.
July 2005
July was a very busy but exciting month for us. We
finished our first year and OFFICIALLY became second
year PA students. We also started our Fall 2005 semester
on July 11, after our one week summer break. In some
ways the last year has flown by and in others it felt
like it was never going to end. We now have less than
a year before we start our clinical rotations. We
are excited to get the Class of 2008 on board.
June 2005
We are almost finished with our first year. We are currently taking
Patient Evaluation II and Scientific Inquiry in a very compressed five
week Summer Semester. We are busy with assignments, Small Groups, and
research. Seven of us from the Class of 2007 attended the AAPA Nation
Conference from May 27 - June 2. It was a great experience and we all
had a great time. While at the conference we had a team that competed in
the Nation Challenge Bowl, but did not make it past the first round, but
we had fun anyways. Linda SummersBrooks, from our class, was elected to
the SAAAPA Board of Director as Director of External Affairs Junior.
Congratulations go out to her. This past year has been busy,
challenging, and exciting. We are ready to pass the torch on to the
Class of 2008.
