Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences

The baccalaureate degree in CLS provides graduates with the knowledge and skills to perform as clinical laboratory scientists in clinical laboratories as well as research laboratories and industry.  Graduates are qualified to take the national certification examinations.

Students interested in this degree should enroll in prerequisite science courses and core curriculum courses.  Once a total of 50 hours have been completed, application to the professional phase at the UT Health Science Center should be made.  Professional coursework takes about 2 years to complete including practicums at clinical affiliates.  Science and core courses can be taken concurrently with professional courses.

Applicants who already have a baccalaureate degree should meet with a CLS faculty member to determine the best route to take to complete the requirements.  Clinical laboratory technicians (CLTs)/medical laboratory technicians (MLT) who have completed a NAACLS accredited CLT/MLT program, have an associate degree and are NCA or ASCP certified are eligible for articulation into the baccalaureate program.
