Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Homepage! And …thank you for your interest in our program. Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) is an exciting profession for those with an interest in science and medicine. Our primary role is to provide laboratory data to the physician for diagnosis and treatment decisions. Clinical laboratory scientists, however, are not limited to working in the hospital. Our graduates are employed in many different areas and have many roles—go to the link for “Success Stories” and see how varied and successful our graduates’ careers are.
The Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences at the UT Health Science Center has been rated in the top 15 such programs in the country. Our faculty are experienced and recognized as experts in their respective disciplines and as excellent teachers. Our department offers degrees at the undergraduate and graduate level as well as post-baccalaureate certificates for those students who already possess a baccalaureate degree. Our curriculum is very flexible and faculty advisors will help you select the best curriculum plan for you. We have agreements with a number of community colleges that allow you to transfer specific courses that meet our prerequisites. We offer students who have completed a NAACLS-approved CLT or MLT program and been certified by NCA or the Board of Certification options for continuing your education to the baccalaureate level.
Please take a look at the links provided so that you get an idea of the CLS profession and our Department. If you have questions, contact the department and one of our advisors will be glad to talk with you. I look forward to having you join our program and this dynamic profession!
Sincerely,
