Student Progress and Continuation: Didactic Course Work
It is the intention of the faculty that every student who matriculates in the PAS curriculum will graduate. The course of study is difficult, demanding, and requires high levels of intellectual processing. With this in mind, the following policies will govern student progression and continuation in the curriculum.
A student may be dismissed from the program for:
- A single grade of “F” in any course. Under no circumstances will the student be allowed to continue in the program with a grade of “F.” A single grade of “F” in any course will stop the student’s progress in the program, but at the discretion of the department faculty, the student may be allowed to return to the program the next semester the failed course is offered. This will usually be in one year. The faculty may apply stipulations for a student to return to the program. Stipulations will be provided to the student in writing and the student must confirm their understanding and agreement to the stipulations in writing. If allowed to return to the program, it is the student’s responsibility to meet all stipulations for that return. Failure to meet any stipulation will disallow return to the program and result in dismissal. The student will return on academic probation and remain on probation until the end of the program.
- Two grades of “F” or a grade of “F” and “D” throughout the course of study.
- A grade of “F” or “D” while on any type (academic or non-academic) of probation.
- Two grades of “D.”
A single grade of “D” in any course will subject the student to review for continuation in the program. If allowed to continue in the program, the student will be placed on academic probation for the remainder of the program and may be required to repeat the course. At the discretion of the faculty, a student may be dismissed or suspended from the program for a single grade of “D” in any course.
All courses in the PAS2 academic year must be passed with a “C” or better.
All courses in the Supervised Clinical Practice year must be passed with a “C” or better.
Appeals will be in accordance with the University Catalog and Student Guide.
Effective: August 2000
Revised: April 2010
