Physical Therapy

Message from the Chair

Welcome to the School of Health Professions Department of Physical Therapy.

Physical therapists are THE EXPERTS in preventing, examining, and treating patients with movement disorders due to neurologic, musculoskeletal, or cardiopulmonary dysfunction. Our nationally and internationally recognized faculty are dedicated to ensure student success in becoming the best in preventing, examining, and providing interventions for their clients with movement dysfunction due to injury or disease.

We continue to implement our Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. Our already outstanding curriculum was augmented with topics in critical thinking, systems review, diagnostic procedures, care throughout the lifespan, and other areas. Our curriculum provides every opportunity for students to succeed in being lifelong learners, critical thinkers, evidence-based practitioners, and the best provider of care in a direct access environment. Students are challenged to achieve their maximum potential!

Graduates of our program have been providing exceptional service to citizens across Texas and the United States since 1980. Our graduates achieved an overall pass rate of 100% on the licensing exam for the past several years. Our alumni association is very active in providing support to our students and graduates with scholarships, activities, and opportunities throughout the year. Click on the alumni link to learn more about our active alumni association.

If you are contemplating applying for our program, congratulations on a very wise decision! Be sure to click on the school of Health Professions Welcome Center link. This is a great time to apply for a career in Physical Therapy. Opportunities in the profession abound with the current job market "hot" and the future, promising. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, "Employment of physical therapists is expected to grow 27 percent from 2006 to 2016, much faster than the average for all occupations."
