Telecommunications & Networking provides long distance service for the University.

Please note:

Authorization Codes

  • Authorization Codes are used to make Long Distance calls from HSC Campuses
  • Submit a SRF for additions, changes, or deletions of authorization codes.
  • Authorization codes are intended for the sole use of the individual to whom it was issued. Codes should not be shared with others.
  • The person to whom the authorization code is issued is held responsible for all calls, including unauthorized calls.
  • Multiple authorization codes can be issued to an individual. This allows calls made for different projects to be billed to different accounts.
  • Authorization codes cannot be transferred to a new department.
  • The Health Science Center uses the State communications network (TEX-AN) for routing the majority of long distance telephone calls. Therefore, by State law, the Health Science Center is restricted from routing any long distance call that is not placed for the purpose of conducting University or State business. Telephone authorization codes and reports detailing the long distance calls made with each authorization code are produced by T&N to assist in the control of unauthorized calls. It is the responsiblity of each department to ensure that authorization codes are kept secure and that the monthly reports are reviewed by a departmental authority to ensure that authorization codes are used only for official business of the University. Review must be complete and any unauthorized calls reimbursed by the employee within 30 days after reports are received by the department.

WARNING

TELECOMMUNICATIONS & NETWORKING ADVISES AGAINST KEEPING A LIST OF AUTHORIZATION CODES ASSIGNED TO YOUR DEPARTMENT. THESE LISTS SOMETIMES GET INTO THE WRONG HANDS. TELECOMMUNICATIONS & NETWORKING CAN PROVIDE YOU A LIST OF EMPLOYEES IN YOUR DEPARTMENT WHO HAVE BEEN ISSUED AUTHORIZATION CODES.
