June Young, the wife of the former dean of the medical school, James Young, Ph.D., died May 20. She was 91. She suffered from lung cancer as well as diabetes and cognitive impairment.
Dr. Young served as medical dean from 1988 to 2000. After a long career in the Army, Dr. Young returned to his native Texas in the fall of 1987 to take the reins as dean of the Health Science Center’s School of Allied Health Sciences. In July 1988, he was named interim dean of the medical school. He became dean in May 1989.
