| AFFILIATIONS AND OUTREACH
The Health Science Center, in partnership with
the Cancer Therapy and Research
Center (CTRC), created the San Antonio Cancer Institute (SACI),
one of the two National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer
Centers in Texas.
UTHSCSA faculty treat patients in dozens of
affiliated institutions, including adjacent teaching hospitals
University Hospital and the Audie Murphy Division, South Texas
Veterans Health Care System. Major clinical activity also occurs at
CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children's Hospital and the other CHRISTUS
locations.
University faculty practice as part of the
University Physicians Group. A major new Medical Arts Research
Center will enhance future clinical care.
The Health Science Center is part of the Southwest
Research Consortium, made up of nine San Antonio institutions
that encourage joint projects, sharing of research facilities and
adjunct faculty appointments. The eight other members of the Consortium
are: The University of Texas at San Antonio, Brooke Army Medical
Center, Trinity University, Brooks Air Force Base Human Systems
Center Armstrong Laboratory, Wilford Hall Medical Center (USAF),
the Southwest Research Institute and the Southwest Foundation for
Biomedical Research.
The Health Science Center's outreach extends
well beyond its six campuses. UTHSCSA has affiliations and partnerships
with health-education and patient-care programs throughout South
Texas, including the Lower Rio Grande Valley. |
