Community Policing Mission Statement

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Police Department is committed to providing the highest quality service.  We join the students, faculty, staff and visitors in a partnership to achieve the goal of mutual understanding and respect within the University and its surrounding community.  The UTHSCSA Police Department shall maintain and promote respect for individual rights and dignity.  We will provide an ethical, people-oriented work environment where our members may enjoy their jobs, utilize their talents, respect one another and grow as individuals.

What is Community Policing?

It is based on the concept that police officers and private citizens work together in creative ways to help solve community problems related to crime and fear of crime.  We seek the input and talents of all members of the community in effort to safeguard our university.  One of our goals is to have a positive police presence here on campus.  We are able to do this by increasing foot patrols inside the buildings giving us the opportunity to become closer to our community.  Establishing and maintaining a mutual trust within the University community will allow the police greater access to valuable information that will lead to prevention of and solutions to crimes.

We give orientation presentations and meet with faculty, staff and students through their organizations.  Some of the presentations we give are:

  • Basic Vehicle Maintenance
  • Date Rape
  • Holiday Safety
  • Jogging Safety
  • Safety on Campus
  • Self Protection
  • Sexual Assault
  • Theft
  • Poison Ivy
  • Snakes
  • Texas Exotics
  • Rabies

If you would like for us to do a presentation or have an idea for a presentation, please let us know.

Thanks
