The OIC coordinates with the Operations Division in matters related to Community Policing and effective deployment of bike patrol officers.

The mission of the Police Bicycle Patrol Unit is to provide a positive police presence with the emphasis on citizen contact and community relations on campus. We are able to do this by patrolling those areas which are most populated and/or least accessible to vehicle patrol. This specialized form oof police patrol provides an opportunity to become closer to our community in and around the university. The Police Bicycle Patrol Unit is a large part of Community Policing. This concept is based on bicycle patrol officers and private citizens working together in creatie ways to help solve community problems related to crime and fear of crime.
