The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio

Introduction

This Compact with Texans is provided in accordance with Senate Bill 1563, 76th Texas Legislature. The Compact for The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is a commitment between the institution and the citizens of Texas to provide assurance that students, our primary customers, have input into the academic programs and services of the Health Science Center, and that each student's concern is handled in a timely fashion by the appropriate individual.

Services Offered

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio offers upper level undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Nursing (BSN, MSN, PhD) and in Allied Health fields (BS in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Dental Hygiene, Dental Laboratory Technology, Emergency Health Sciences, Physician Assistant Studies and Respiratory Care), (MS in Clinical Laboratory Sciences and Dental Hygiene). Certificate programs in Dental Hygiene, Dental Laboratory Technology, and Emergency Medical Technology (Basic and Paramedic) also are available, as well as post-baccalaureate certificates in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Chemistry, Immunohematology, Hematology, Cytogenetics, Microbiology, and Molecular Diagnostics. The Health Science Center also offers first professional degrees in Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Deaf Education and Hearing Science, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies. Graduate programs leading to masters or doctoral basic science degrees are offered in Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Cellular and Structural Biology, Clinical Investigation, Microbiology and Immunology, Molecular Medicine, Pharmacology, Physiology, and Radiological Sciences. Advanced Dental Education programs in Dental Diagnostic Science, Endodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontics, and Prosthodontics as well as MS in Dental Diagnostic Science, Endodontics, Periodontics, and Prosthodontics are offered by the Dental School.

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio offers its students, who will become competent, productive, ethical, and socially responsive practicing health professionals, the opportunity to have the highest quality health professions education possible. We strive to maintain an academic environment that is supportive of students in their pursuit of knowledge and professional development. We take pride in developing the next generation of health professionals for South Texas and beyond.

The Health Science Center believes that in most cases complaints and other concerns from students should be handled within 30 business days from initial contact with the appropriate official listed below. Certain issues may require a shorter or longer turn-around time for resolution; these issues and their respective procedures and schedules are provided in the Health Science Center's Student Handbook and in each school's handbook, under the sections marked "grievances." Responses to students may be provided by letter, electronic message, telephone call, or personal interview, depending upon the severity and urgency of the issue.

Admissions Information

The admissions requirements for each degree and certificate program offered by the Health Science Center is published in each school's View Book. View Books may be obtained from the Office of the Registrar, Department of Student Services, at 7703 Floyd Curl Drive, Mail Code 7702, San Antonio, Texas 78229-3900; phone number 210-567-2621. Admissions information also is available on the Health Science Center's Website. Generally, each school has a deadline before which applications for admissions and required supplemental information must be submitted. Some schools or programs also require applicant interviews. Most degree programs enroll beginning students in the fall semester.
