Department of Family Nursing Care Outstanding Educator Award

PURPOSE: To recognize faculty endeavors and contributions to the educational offerings and programs of the UTHSCSA School of Nursing

AWARD: An annual award will be given by the Department of Family Nursing Care (FNC) to highlight the achievement(s) of a faculty educator within the department

ELIGIBILITY: All FNC faculty are eligible to apply for this award. A recipient of the award is eligible again in five (5) years.

CRITERIA: Areas in which an educator may demonstrate achievement, contribution, and impact include, but are not limited to, the following, and may relate to classroom or clinical contributions:

  • Course/Program Evaluation or Revision
  • Development of New Courses, Electives, and Independent Studies
  • Construction/Implementation of Program Grants
  • Curriculum Development
  • Educational Research/Publications/Scholarship
  • Course Facilitation
  • Sustained Expertise in Course Implementation
  • Instructional Development
  • Creation of New Teaching Materials
  • Development of New Clinical Experiences for Students
  • Evidence of Sustained Clinical Expertise as It Applies To Clinical Instruction
  • Evidence of Expertise in Clinical Instruction

NOMINATIONS: The nominations of faculty meeting the criteria will be accepted by March 1st of each year. The nomination will consist of two letters, no more than three pages in length, addressing the criteria and the impact of the nominated faculty on quality education for both students and faculty at the School of Nursing. Faculty may self-nominate.

DETERMINATION OF AWARD: An outside reviewer will review the letters of nomination and determine the recipient of the award.

AWARD: The award will consist of the following: Announcement of recipient at end of academic year during the Faculty Assembly meeting; presentation of award to the recipient at final FNC Department meeting; recipient's name added to the cumulative award plaque; $250 check from FNC Department.
