Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

Marsha C. Kinney, M.D.

Frank M. Townsend Professor and Chair

Dr. Kinney is a board certified anatomic and clinical pathologist with subspecialty training and certification in hematology (hematopathology) and research training in pediatric immunology.  She is the Frank M. Townsend Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and directs the Division of Hematopathology, which includes patient care, resident and fellowship training, and academic activities.  Her clinical and translational research revolves around the diagnosis, classification, and pathogenesis of lymphoid neoplasms using morphologic, immunophenotypic (immunohistochemical and flow cytometric) and genetic data.  Her particular interests include anaplastic large T-cell lymphoma, extranodal T-cell lymphoma, and cutaneous lymphoma.  As a result of this experience, she is positioned to translate experimental findings into diagnostic and prognostic information and targeted therapy.  Dr. Kinney has been a contributor to the WHO Classification of Tumours of the Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues and served as the President of the Society for Hematopathology.  In addition to academic activities, she has a large national referral consultation diagnostic service serving patients and providing a collaborative clinical network for further study of lymphoid neoplasms and unusual reactive conditions.
