Dental Hygiene Admission

To apply to the MSDH Program, go to the ADEA Dental Hygiene Centralized Application Service (ADEA DHCAS). ADEA DHCAS is the place to research programs and submit an application. Graduate school admission is a competitive process. Decisions are based on a composite of the applicant's overall professional and academic ability. Complete the  ADEA DHCAS application and the following steps 

1. Apply through DHCAS pay their fee, get your ID number, submit your documents

2. Submit a $60 registration fee to the UT Health San Antonio Division of Dental Hygiene, in the form of a check or money order with the same name used in your application to ADEA DHCAS to the address below:

3.  Upon acceptance, please submit all official transcripts to the Office of the Registrar. International applicants must have transcripts from foreign universities evaluated prior to submission.

Admission Requirements 

To apply to the Master of Science in Dental Hygiene Program the prospective student must have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a nationally and regionally accredited institution of higher education in the United States. 

  • Must have graduated from an accredited dental hygiene program recognized by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) within the United States and Canada. 

  • Successful completion of the Dental Hygiene National Board Examination.

  • Current licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist in any state in the United States or Canada. 

  • Graduate Record Examinations General Aptitude Test  (GRE) or on the  Miller Analogies Test  (MAT). Must be taken within the past 5 years and scores and submitted in ADEA DHCAS. There is no minimum score required. 

  • Applicants from countries where English is not the native language are required to submit scores on the  Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum score of 68 (Internet), 220 (computer), or 560 (paper) is required. 

  • Locate "U Texas Health Science Center San Antonio" (UT Health San Antonio) on  programpages.dhcas.org/search and complete an application on adeadhcas.org 

Send official transcripts from every college or university you have attended to ADEA DHCAS.  

A personal (phone) interview with representatives of the master’s in dental hygiene degree program may be required. A criminal background check must also be completed.

Once the application is completed and reviewed, it will be submitted by the Committee on Graduate Studies (COGS) for Dental Hygiene Division for approval from the Dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at UT Health San Antonio. If the application is approved, the prospective student will receive an acceptance notification with a letter of intent. Acceptance is not complete until the student returns the signed letter of intent.

Once accepted and as part of the admission process, the student is to review and submit proof of immunizations as required for all students and practitioners in health care. The following link provides a location and direction for submission of immunization records.
