James Roberts, Ph.D.

Cowles Distinguished Professor of Life Science, Trinity University

Dr. James Roberts is a Cowles Distinguished Professor of Life Science at Trinity University.

Career path

He received his Ph.D. studying the biochemistry of neuropeptides. After a fellowship at University of California San Francisco, Dr. Roberts joined the faculty at Columbia University in the biochemistry and biophysics department and Center for Reproductive Sciences. In 1986, he founded the Dr. Arthur M. Fishberg Research Center for Neuroscience at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine of the City University of New York.

In addition to being co-chairman of neuroscience, he was also the director of the graduate education program in neuroscience. After moving to San Antonio to the UT Medical Center in 2001, he helped to build the Center for Biomedical Neuroscience.

In 2008, he decided a career change would be refreshing and joined the faculty of Trinity University to help build their fledgling neuroscience undergraduate major.
