Biography

Liliana Espinoza’s dissertation project focuses on uncovering the neuronal circuitry responsible for mediating parasympathetic control of cardiac function, both under healthy conditions and in the context of high fat diet. Findings will highlight new therapeutic interventions to prevent aberrant changes that occur following exposure to high fat diet. For this purpose, she will employ methodologies including in vitro electrophysiology (whole-cell patch clamp), heart rate telemetry, metabolic measurements (including blood glucose and food intake), brain microinjections, use of viral delivery strategies, optogenetics, and ventilated mouse cardiac injections.

Hobbies and Interests:

I am a lover of the performing and fine arts. I enjoy going to symphonies and plays, visiting art exhibits, painting, playing the piano, and singing. When I have free time, I like reading romance novels, watching chick-flicks, and fashion blogging. To destress, I like exercising by lifting weights, and I’ve more recently picked up (salsa) dancing with friend
